Castro Valley Schools continued: Partnership and clear focus has resulted in district students scoring among the highest in the state. Last year all elementary schools qualified to be nominated as California Distinguished Schools, with Marshall and Proctor being named California Distinguished Schools, Jensen and Chabot receiving Honorable Mention and Palomares Elementary being honored in Washington DC as a National Blue Ribbon School.

The 2006 State Academic Progress report reaffirms that Castro Valley is a district on the move. The state assessment system has identified the majority of all elementary schools as having an API of over 900! Similarly, our middle schools continue to show significant growth well above their state achievement targets, CVHS increased its API score by 15 points and Redwood High School made an amazing API growth of 131 points!

Good schools contribute to a good community and community support has been outstanding. The passage of three bond measures in seven years is a testimony to that support. While the 1998 bond measure emphasized modernizing district schools and the 2002 focused on new construction, the 2005 bond measure ensures a balanced, $44 million investment benefiting every school, targeting three key areas:

Improve Safety & Security of Schools ($18.1 million)
• Seismic Retrofitting of Schools and Classrooms
• Classroom and Campus-wide security

21st Century Instructional Needs ($11.7 million)
• Improved library facilities and communications systems
• New science classrooms/ laboratories for 6th graders
• 21st Century Career/ Technical Centers
• Additional classrooms and support

Physical Health and Well-Being ($14.2 million)
• Replace/refurbish the athletic complex at Castro Valley High School
• Upgrade upper track and field at Creekside
• Upgrade athletic fields at Canyon
• Upgrade play fields at all elementary sites
